Talk Story with Uncle: Meeting of Faiths

Join us for our February Talk Story with Uncle as we reflect on the historical meeting of Western European Christianity and Kanaka Maoli faith and beliefs, and consider how these traditions have encountered, influenced, and continue to shape many of our family and personal faith journeys today.

History reminds us that traditional spiritual practices — including hula — were once condemned as “pagan” and forced underground. Yet Kanaka Maoli spirituality did not disappear. It endured.

In this conversation, we name that history with humility and care. We name the tensions and the resilience. We reflect on where these traditions have come into conflict, where they may align — in love, service, humility, and aloha — and how we might carry forward a faith journey that honors the fullness of who we are.

We invite you to come listen deeply, to share thoughtfully, and to seek understanding. Our hope is to build greater awareness, mutual respect, and connection as we move forward together.

Let’s come with open hearts.

Let’s talk story.
